This full-time position is responsible for plan review, providing general building code interpretation and information, and oversight of the building inspection and building permit services. The ideal candidate possesses strong communication skills, has a background in building oversight, construction, and permitting, and familiarity with office processes and equipment. Basic competency with Microsoft Office products is required. The Building Official position includes working with the general public, property owners, contractors, and elected and appointed officials. Candidates must demonstrate tact in challenging situations and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds.
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Associate’s Degree or two-year certificate from a trade school is preferred. Requires two years supervisory experience and five years experience in any combination as building official, plans examiner and/or building inspector role. Must possess ICC certifications as Residential and Commercial Building Inspector, and Residential Plan Reviewer, or obtain within 6 months of hire. ICC Building Official certification preferred.
